TRANSALPIN vs TRANSFOGARASKA
TRANSALPINA VIDEO
TRANSFOGARASKA VIDEO

Probably like many motorcyclists, so many opinions about which of the famous Romanian routes is better.

I also have my opinion, I liked Transalpina much better. Due to the length, number of cars, number of bends, almost new asphalt and very spectacular views at the top. The lower sections as we go through a beautiful coniferous forest are also fun. I have a definite opinion, if I could drive only one without hesitating, I would choose Transalpina.

But this does not mean that Tranfogaraska is somehow weak, on the contrary - apart from already quite badly worn asphalt and very heavy car traffic (we hit the holiday and probably all the locals came there, it was still relatively good in the morning, but when we got back there was a gigantic traffic jam. ..), I think that it is a great road, great turns, great views and a unique atmosphere - especially if we come across fog or clouds.

If I were to express myself objectively, I would say - you have to drive both of them. The roads are about 105 km apart (from the north). So, for stubbornness, you can cover two routes in one day. Anyone who was in those areas and rode only one of these roads will have something to regret.  One day is definitely not enough to get to know both ways, it's best to do it in two separate days. It is worth taking each route twice - from north to south and vice versa. You also need to reserve time for photos and dinner.

We did just that, choosing a small town more or less in the middle of both roads - Talmacel, I recommend it with a pure heart - it is a small, old Romanian village with a lot of monuments. There you can find rooms in private accommodation at very good prices, where people are really very hospitable.

Coming back to the topic of roads - Transalpina won for us, what is your opinion? If you don't already know, the only way to answer this question is to drive both roads.

We have prepared below  photo gallery  from both routes.
